Tears of sorrow mingled with tears of joy as Oscar Peterson fans realized that the keyboard genius, who had just recovered his health, was still capable of amazing them all, although he had obivously forfited some of his past vitality.
As promised to you, the second Oscar Peterson review and this is one of my all time favorite!! As always order from me, I beat the price!! Surely there is no better classification of this vinyl LP), although it will certainly appeal to more advanced jazz lovers too. Green Dolphin Street Heartstrings Work Song A Wonderful Guy Reunion Blues. Many will know the great Oscar Peterson only as a soloist or as part of a trio. But he is equally sovereign and sensitive when accompanying soloists on all kinds of instruments.
And this has been proved not only by this particular Verve LP! Peterson allows him to create his own concept, placing no constraints on him anywhere, but confining himself to providing musical support.
Of course, this is delivered by the trio with their customary aplomb: they make their mark in a relaxed and airy manner, the harmonies flow easily and playfully out of their minds into their fingers and are developed almost as if by magic.
The balance between theme and improvisation is perfect, and transparency is preserved from beginning to end in all six numbers. Oscar Petersons genius is perceptible in every second of the music.
But in this particular production this is nowhere discernible. Track Listing: Reachin Out - Count Basie And His Orchestra* - Prime Time (Vinyl. Lady Sings The Blues 2. I Must have That Man 4. Her voice was always embedded in the sound carpet produced by her accompanying musicians: Tony Scott and Paul Quinichette are two names who made their mark on her music in the mid-Fifties, and the rhythm group of Barney Kessel, Kenny Burrell and Chico Hamilton is really first class. This album in its original cover proves for first time just how great the old Clef recordings by Norman Granz can sound. And surely almost no-one will still possess a well-preserved copy with lyrics!
Miles davis, kind of Blue Captured during two impromptu recording sessions, Kind of Blue features tenor saxophonist John Coltrane, alto saxophonist Cannonball Adderley, bassist Paul Chambers, drummer Jimmy Cobb, and the pianists Wynton Kelly and Bill Evans although not at the same time. The band was sort of an odd mix of musicians. Coltrane was inching closer to the avant-garde, and would soon be regarded as an innovative genius for composing and recording Giant Steps.
His playing on Kind of Blue represents a transition from one style to another. Jimmy Cobb and Paul Chambers do the same. They strip down the conventions of a jazz rhythm section, reducing LP) to their simplest parts. You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Google account. With the exception of a brief period in the early '50s, he led a big band from until his death almost 50 years later, and the band continued to perform after he died. Basie's orchestra was characterized by a light, swinging rhythm section that he led from LP) piano, lively ensemble work, and generous Reachin Out - Count Basie And His Orchestra* - Prime Time (Vinyl.
Basie was not a composer like Duke Ellington or an important soloist like Benny Goodman. His instrument was his band, which was considered the epitome of swing and became broadly influential on jazz. Born in Red Bank, New Jersey, on August 21,both of Basie's parents were musicians; his father, Harvie Basie, played the mellophone, and his mother, Lillian Childs Basie, was a pianist who gave her son his earliest lessons.
Basie also learned from Harlem stride pianists, particularly Fats Waller. His first professional work came accompanying vaudeville performers, and he was part of a troupe that broke up in Kansas City inleaving him stranded there. He stayed in the Midwestern city, at first working in a silent movie house and then joining Walter Page's Blue Devils in July The band's vocalist was Jimmy Rushing.
Basie left in early to play with other bands, eventually settling into one led by Bennie Moten. Upon Moten's untimely death on April 2,Basie worked as a soloist before leading a band initially called the Barons of Rhythm. Many former members of the Moten band joined this nine-piece outfit, among them Walter Page bassFreddie Green guitarJo Jones drumsand Lester Young tenor saxophone.
Jimmy Rushing became the singer.
